Tour of my Classroom

Welcome to room 113!! I want to give a tour of my classroom set up. This year I implemented the Daily 5 program and so my challenge was making my room set up to support it.

This is where is all began! An empty room and my new baby's nap time. :)

After a lot of hard work and time it turned into this...
Front Room View
Back Room View
Carpet time area and Calendar
Classroom Library
Clip Chart and Supply Cart
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my supply cart. The kiddos know that they are able to use anything off the cart without asking and saves a lot of precious work time. No more "Teacher can we use..." or "I broke my pencil" or "Teacher, I lost my pink crayon" or "My pencil doesn't have an eraser."

I longed for a place where the kids could grab the things they needed and get back to work.

Top shelf: Dull and sharp pencil can. The kids put their pencil in the dull side and grab one from the sharp side and straight back to work! The extra scissors can and basket with extra big erasers are available for borrowing but go back to the cart when done. All the cans are just soup cans that I have wrapped with themed duct tape to match my room. Then I just put sticker letters on the front to label them. My favorite item is the lost and found crayons sorter.  I purchased little short baskets from the dollar store. They are the baskets used in office drawers to sort paperclips, staples, etc.  I glued them all down to a spray painted cookie sheet (also dollar store) and wrapped duct tape around the edge. Now each color has it's own home now. If I find crayons on the floor (which NEVER happens... HAHA! Yeah right) I just throw it in the bin instead of trying to figure out whose it is. Then when the child can't find their crayon they can just go grab the color they need.

Middle Shelf: Glue bottles in a bin with 5-6 for each table. I have a table captain that just grabs the bin of glue and brings it over to the table for everyone. Also glue sticks are in a basket here for kids to grab and use if they need.

Bottom Shelf: Boxes that hold colored pencils (green) and markers (blue) Again there is one box for each table so a table captain grabs markers for the entire table to share. Also, I have mini garbage cans on this shelf. (from the dollar store) Again one for each table to grab during projects or worksheets that require cutting. This way the kids can put their scraps into the garbage can and I don't kids walking all over the room to throw scraps away. They simply put their scraps in the mini garbage can and at the end of the project one child can throw all the scraps away. This year I have also added laminated manilla folders to use as a small office when testing or when I want to make sure they aren't looking at other papers.

Finally, the biggest hit in my room......
Mrs. Shober's Reading Shack!

This reading shack was designed to support readers in a comfortable and inviting environment. The best part.... CHEAP! I used PVC pipe and PVC glue to put this thing together. I spray painted the PVC brown and I pinned fabric over the top, found a bench at a thrift store, made some pillows and VOILA! Children use this shack after finishing their work to have a nice quiet place to read or during Daily 5 Read to Self.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!!
